Well, that was fast.

I have an apartment. (Floorplan 1C.) It is ginormous, it is within walking distance of work and of a Safeway, it has a washer and dryer, and it is costing me only one arm and leg. Downsides include that it's on the first floor, the washer and dryer are "portable" (the washer wheels over to the sink for its water hookup), and I can't get in 'til the fifteenth. So, an extra week of living with my parents and having a real commute to work. These things happen.

Of course this means that Moving will occur that weekend. Probably Sunday the sixteenth, starting around eleven, for DC-area folks. (Come! Help! I'll feed you! Plus you get to curse my name as you haul thirty bankers' boxes of books from the truck to the apartment!)

(Genuine updates to come later today, as I have nothing to do this afternoon but sit around and write.)

Housing is crazy-expensive up here. I'm looking forward to moving someplace less insane in a few years. And being several hours away is a quite good excuse for not moving.

Surprisingly enough, it looks to be far enough from Tyson's proper that it'll be rather quiet. It's about a quarter-mile from 123, and almost a mile from the Beltway.

I've never really done 'city' living as such. It's always been the suburbs for me. Good chance to figure out whether I like it or not, I think.

The lack of stairs is pretty cool. I'm just worried about the potential for noisy upstairs neighbors. And the apartments are forty years old, so "noisy" could come from just pacing back and forth a lot. I really have no idea.

It's not necessarily a matter of /needing/ people; it's more that after the move from Knollwood to LisaNeil's with just me and Emily and Bert, I'm kind of paranoid about making sure I have enough help and then some.

Even before I started looking I decided I was willing to pay whatever it took to not have to live west of where I worked. I have /seen/ the parking lot that is 66, and it scares me.

I'm hopin'. I talked to a guy on Monday who'd been living there for longer than I've been alive. He seemed pretty happy with it. Course, he also mentioned that the complex was built in 1965, which is a bit older than I'd expected.

Everyone else I've lived with really irritated me while I lived with them. Not that I don't like them, but I have found that I don't deal well having to share space with some people. By far the worst is my parents, who I'm with now.

I'd love to live in a place like that. I'm starting to get a little desperate, living with my family and all... I really, really need my own place. Almost all of my books are still sitting in boxes in the garage, and it breaks my heart. *sigh*

You helped me a lot. All of the people I met at WaldenBooks did. If it wasn't for you guys I don't know what I would have done. I only wish I could help you move, or help at all. I'm sorry.

Heh, thanks. It's okay - I'll just have to find a better job, that's all. The local Borders Express is apparently hiring again, and the last time I was in there - when I still had a job, mind you - they practically begged me to apply... so. If nothing else, it'd pay better, and I'd get that lovely discount again! It's be something, at least.

I might be able to help you move. Someone else I know is moving that weekend, but I think that's happening the 15th, and he hasn't even actually asked for help yet, so for now, unless I find out there's something else I'm suppose to be doing that day, I'll give you a hand. Not sure I could start right at 11a (might not be able to help before noonish or 1ish), though, in case that makes me useless.
