. . . wait, Technicon, in addition to being in McBryde instead of an actual convention center, is shutting down at eleven PM?

I want to go this year: a couple days of solid gaming, plus Mr Martin and Ursula Vernon. It's growing more and more difficult to justify the time and expense, though.

There's a reason we're not going and I told the staff why. This is going to be the death of Tcon if they're not really really careful.

Well, the T'con 26 chair knows this and I think will be doing as much as he can to try and get things back on track, so there is at least that. :/

the late night programming will be held at the Microtel.

Staying after 11 in McBride incurs huge charges.

I didn't think we're allowed to stay after 11, period? No matter how many officers we hire?

Hey, maybe you know the answer to a question then: is there a room left in the Microtel that would have 24 hour access? Or at least access until 3 or 4 in the morning for us gamers who might want to game?

Yeah...I was thinking of making this trip this year, but not to hang in McBryde. No way. I hate that building with a passion.

Yeah, I will be doing my schtick at the Microtel on Saturday night after White Plectrum wraps up. Having to make the trip back and forth is unfortunate. :(

There is no on-campus venue available to us that we are allowed to use 24-hour - University Policy. There is no off-campus venue available to us without charging $100+ general admission except possibly the Ramada, which the current Technicon administration refuses to consider. Moving to Roanoke would lose us VT funding and therefore again cause admission to skyrocket.

Please, for the love of god, tell me what the solution is!

I'm going, largely because its the only chance I typically get to see people from back East. Although due to the facilities problems it looks like the regulars are dropping like flies.

Also if it's going to be the Last Technicon, I'd hate to miss it.

I have to say, from my perspective, this is the most poorly managed con (on the part of the chair) that I've ever witnessed, though perhaps I say it as shouldn't. I wasn't exactly a stellar chair myself. I know this is an unfair assessment, as I'm only lurking on the staff list and am not directly involved. But as far as I can tell, the chair's only contribution this year has been to forbid the Ramada.

In any case, Kate and I are committed now, as we already bought plane tickets.

There's also the Dorsai thing... wasn't that a chair decision?

The number one reason I go to Tcon is the people, and half the people I want to see won't be there this year. The fact it might be the last one is the other highly motivating reason for me to go--if it is the last one, there's some people I may simply never see again, at least not for a long time.

That's (the whole thing, mcbryde, 11pm and all that) one of the reasons I'm probably not going (work is the other one).

Well, I'll be sad if you and Emily don't go... I echo everyone else in saying that the only reason I go is the people. Give me my friends, their games, and a flat surface and we can have a nice party.

I think far more than a crappy venue, what will kill the con is people seeing their friends just not go.

I am going, I've already gotten aeroplane transport reservations, and anyway I want a nice long weekend off. I'm staying with Adam, who has kindly taken that whole weekend off work to hang out with me, so if nothing else we can hang out there and play games and talk about code and spread wild rumors. I'm about half resigned to that being all that there is for me.

Well, and at least some time watching the wind and the leaves play together, which was always the best part of Blacksburg anyway.

We're still planning on going. We have a cheap hotel reservation and enjoy road-tripping with each other and there will be people there to game with. Those are reasons enough for now. Although, I strongly suspect that if we didn't already have the hotel reservation, we wouldn't be going.

Adam and I have three floors so I expect we'll be inviting some folks back to play games at our place. I'm going to be somewhat cautious about who gets invited (lots of delicate music stuff) but you and E. would be more than welcome.

i was going to make a post saying basically the same thing but for my place, (large room, two blocks from campus) but decided to glance through posts before i did.
so we have at least two possible places for "late-nite gaming and a small handful of people."
