jazzfish: an open bottle of ether, and George conked out (Ether George)

How much, you may ask, did that suck?

I left Green Valley Book Fair (I-81 exit 240) at quarter of five.

It's about a two-hour drive from Book Fair to home-in-Blacksburg (exit 118).

I got in about fifteen minutes ago.

On a scale of one to ten, that sucked.

At around 6:20 (I think) I considered stopping for dinner in Arcadia (exit 168). They had a Burger King, but it was 2.5 miles out of my way. I decided that wasn't worth it just to claim I'd had a cheeseburger in paradise. The next place with food was the truck stop at Troutville (exit 150), which I reached at 7:00, ravenous enough to consider McDonald's "food."

Got back on the road at 7:20ish. A big sign a couple miles back proclaimed the closing of the left lane for an accident at mile marker 133. "This doesn't sound good," I said to myself.

It wasn't good. At quarter of eight I called [livejournal.com profile] uilos, because I hadn't reached the Roanoke spur at exit 143 yet and I was pretty sure there was a better way home than "sit in traffic lights." By the power of teh Intarweb she talked me through getting on 460 and then riding it all the way into Xiansburg, which sucked but not as bad as sitting in traffic on 81.

As I rolled into Xiansburg I passed a light-up sign proclaiming that I-81 south was closed due to an accident at mile marker 133. Yowza.

Oh yeah, and I did some reunioning with classmates too. Will write about that later.

And Jesse Valenzuela, as expected, says just about all there is to say about today.

We were getting on at that exit and squeeked by the accident right after it happened. 4 car pileup.

Then we took the back way into the burg to avoid the traffic.
