Ask me and I'll give you five questions to answer in your own journal. You know the drill.

1. Are you glad you've gone back to school?

Lord, yes. Finishing something I started ten years ago. Making myself theoretically employable. Meeting interesting people (professors mostly, but a couple of classmates have been not wastes of flesh). Despite the hell of design lab I am eminently glad to have gone back to school.

2. Have you ever done anything in life that you've truly regretted?

Hm. I used to regret not taking AP CompSci in high school; if I'd done that, a lot of career-related things would've turned out a lot differently. It's not something that bothers me now, though.
There's nothing specific that I really regret: I tend to float through life, and regrets would tie me down to something. I'll beat myself up over bad decisions for ages but that's not quite the same thing.

3. What is your fondest memory from Blacksburg?

Doing laundry late at night and arguing about the existence of objective reality. There really isn't anything that can compare to it.

4. Is there anyone who has wandered out of your life that you wish would wander back in?

A couple of friends from very very long ago. The chances of this happening are roughly one in six billion, so it doesn't keep me up at night.
There are several people I'd like to keep in closer contact with, but oh well.

5. Can you recommend a few good authors for me to check out - my reading has lately consisted of rereading?

Gene Wolfe if you're wanting to have to put some thought into it. I'd start with Book of the Long Sun (sci-fi) or maybe The Wizard Knight (fantasy). Patricia Wrede is good lighter stuff, especially the Enchanted Forest Chronicles (Dealing with Dragons, etc) and Sorcery and Cecilia. Emma Bull and John M. Ford are both good but most of their books are OoP. Neil Gaiman, of course, and Tim Powers. And read Agyar by Steven Brust if you haven't yet.

1. Was moving back to Blacksburg the right thing to do?

Only time will tell, truth be told and cliched phrases being double.

I remember the goals that I had in mind moving up here. Most of those still apply. I also remember that moving up here was the first stage in what I was thinking would be the next 3-5 years of my life. I also envisioned a few things happening that didn't (finding a -rilly- cheap apartment [though I'm happy with this one], getting a job in the first month). I'll know in 3-5 years if it was right, because by then I'll know if we've moved comfortably closer to the goals.

2. What's the dumbest thing you've ever done?

So... many... to... choose... from.

There are those that would have required foreknowledge or resources I just didn't have (like getting Mindspring stock when it was $8). There are those I don't know they qualify as just dumb (and I'm still working on the courage to talk about in public forum). For now I'll go with the time I took a very pretty girl out on a date when I was 16...

...to my friday night D&D group....

...keeping in mind I knew she didn't game...

...and she sat there for 3 or 4 hours...

...in a hot attic...

...and then got offended when one of my gaming buddies asked her out later on.

3. What's polyamory mean to you?

It means that I'm free to love who I choose and so long as I take into consideration the feelings of others and situational conditions allow, I have the freedom to express said love.

4. Who were you ten years ago?

Hmm... summer of 1996.

If my math is right, that is the summer I moved to B'burg the first time (which was the abso-goddess bless-loutly right thing to do). I was a person in transition. I was someone who knew what he believed and what it meant to him. I was someone who was foolishly idealistic and under the impression there was no reason not to be. I was in the process of re-discovering who and what I was. I was someone getting re-accquainted with passion. I was a mess, but a mess in good company.

Which differs very little from now.

5. I mean, seriously, what's up with that thing? You know, the one right over there.

Well, it is one of faekitty's finds. It does what it's supposed to do. If you want to get into the details, it does look like the Ewok is making eyes at the persian kitty, and the crowned dragon could be better placed, but the rest was a wedding gift, and it fits well there.
