Words are inadequate

YEP YEP YEP. In limited fairness this was the early nineties, I genuinely do not know how much was known about ADD beyond "it's the reason my (white male) kid is acting out." But my recollection is that I wasn't able to explain what was going on with me internally, and he wasn't able or willing to dig into it. I expect it looked a lot like 'typical teenage rebellion' and there was for sure some of that going on, but ... there was a decent amount of what boiled down to "the persona i carefully constructed so that my parents would love me is breaking down and i don't know what to do about that" as well, and the response I got was "well, just build that persona back better."
