ye catte, not yette
Oct. 15th, 2022 03:37 pmThe plan was to go pick up Mr "Tuppert" from the shelter this morning, so I spent the last few days acquiring various cat-things and generally straightening up the apartment. Then yesterday the shelter emailed with "he's not been himself the last couple of days and yuked up all his dry food this morning, so we're taking him to the vet." The vet's guess is mild pancreatitis but won't know for sure until the bloodwork comes back (today or tomorrow). They gave him an antibiotic shot and a stomach-settler, and he's supposedly doing better but they want to keep him a few more days to keep an eye on him. Which I am okay with; I'm happy to not have my first solo foray into pet ownership involve treating an ill beast.
I did get to meet him this morning, at least. He's definitely an elder cat: he's got that slightly-grizzled look to his muzzle and face. Loves scritches, purrs and drools when happy. He wasn't interested in getting up out of his bed to come closer for more scritches, which is understandable. I think he'll do fine.
This bout of vet does have me slightly reconsidering my plan to become a Home For Elder Kittens. I very much appreciate calm and easygoing, and I know that older cats are harder to find homes for, so I've been thinking of taking in one or two at a time for however long they stick around. It ain't gonna be cheap, though. Or low-stress when the stress does come on.
But still, probably a good idea overall. Make me feel like I'm doing something useful.
(No replacement name has suggested itself yet, but that'll come when it does.)
