the hideous screeching sound than glyndwr makes when it starts up in the wet has been definitely traced to the compressor. meaning that if i drive around for a few minutes and then turn the compressor on, it's all fine. i _am_ a little curious about the occasional smell of ozone when it starts, though.

Compressor ?= A/C compressor? Could be a bad clutch on the compressor, or some such.. it's a pain to replace A/C compressors, though, because it requires a professional to drain and later recharge the A/C system..

Ozone? Weird.. have anything shorting out under the hood?
