heh. [personal profile] uilos and I have very nearly come to blows over shelving order. (She: alpha by title, series in pub order. Me: in pub order, with two exceptions: 1) all books in a series are shelved together in pub order, and all series in the same, er, series are shelved together in pub order; 2) collections go at the end of the author.) Shelving in internal chronology would be difficult with things like the Taltos books ("Dragon takes place before and after Yendi; did you do that just to screw with people who like to read in chronological order?").

99% of the time I'm a "read in pub order" kinda guy. The times I'm not it's generally been a mistake (Katherine Kurtz's Camber books are pointless without the Kelson books, for instance).
