Not awesome: checking your account balance online and finding two charges you don't recognise (I don't use Skype, and I think I bought something through Plimus once years ago, probably Spectromancer).

Not awesome: leaving for Origins in five days without an ATM card, because I had to cancel this one and the new one might get here on Wednesday if I'm lucky.

Awesome: USAA's customer service, who basically said "Well, that sucks. Looks like it's just your debit card, so at least you don't have to close the checking account. Go get some cash out of an ATM and call us back to cancel the card, and we'll kill those pending charges and start a fraud investigation."

At least it's Friday.

Oh, man. I'm sorry.

Any other year (i.e. one that I'm there) and I'd be happy to help if you found yourself in need of cash during Origins. At least, while it's a pain, it's while you're traveling somewhere there are a lot of people who know and like you and will help if needed?

Oh right, Origins. I will be sad this year to miss it since we're essentially in the Last Free Time before project hell, but the opera won't happen again next year.

You all need to post frequently and make me jealous of all the games you're playing! :)

I had the same thing happen when my grandfather was in the hospital last year.... only my bank caught it before I did. People (that steal debit cards) suck. >.< *hugness*

Brutal. If you need to borrow a debit card next week for vital things, where board games do indeed count as vital, just ask.

Ditto! I bought a new suitcase the other night. I'm excited!

Sorry bout that - it's never convenient, but always seems to happen around travel! But...USAA is awesomesauce.

That sucks! USAA does have the best customer service, though. It's nice to see that they were so practical, suggesting that you go get cash before they canceled the card.

They were really helpful when we moved here, too. We needed cash for a deposit on an apartment and didn't plan ahead - we didn't realize how hard it would be to get substantial amounts of cash here. (Canada has very strict money laundering laws, to the point of ridiculousness sometimes, but that's another story.) After visiting several banks and trying everything we could think of, we finally discovered that it was just a matter of calling USAA and asking for a temporary increase to our ATM withdrawal limit. They rock.
