I suspect they don't do that particular contract rider any more, for exactly the reason you suggest. Contract riders like the Brown M&Ms only work for their intended purpose when too many people know about them. I suspect that Van Halen changed the rider after the first time it hit the news that they canceled a contract "because" of the M&Ms.

Because of that, I was surprised that Ira asked John if TMBG had any similar riders in their contract. But totally unsurprised when John dodged the question.
