stuff about other people!

. . . okay, Firefox 2 is teh win. When I minimize it, it goes to the back of my list of apps in the alt-tab menu. Angels are rejoicing over this simple bug-fix.
I'm going to want something to do on Monday. I can tell. So, from
sir_alf and
vvalkyri:
If you ask me, I'll:
1) Tell you why I friended you or make up something entertaining and plausible, at least.
2) Associate you with a song/movie.
3) Tell a random fact about you.
4) Tell my first memory of you.
5) Associate you with an animal/fruit or other odd item.
6) Ask something I've always wanted to know about you.
7) Tell you my favorite user pic of yours.
8) Tell you something I like about you.
(I'm unlikely to get to any of these before Monday, and guaranteed to not get to them before Sunday afternoon.)

Date: 2007-03-19 01:45 pm (UTC)Rocked.
1) Because I've known you for ages and wanted to keep up with you while you were far away.
2) Queensrÿche, "Revolution Calling." (Alternately "More Human Than Human," because as you once pointed out it sounds a lot like "More Human Than You, Man.")
3) You got me started reading Transmetropolitan, with the religion issue.
4) You standing in Owens with a BattleTech deck, asking "Wanna blow shit up?"
5) A porcupine. With a pair of Nerf rocket launchers.
6) Why did you leave Aiken in the first place?
7)
8) I like your ability to tell stories. You've got a good sense of pacing, and great hooks.

Date: 2007-03-19 01:55 pm (UTC)I wanted out of Aiken pretty much after I was 12. There was not a lot there and while I was okay with it at the time, I wanted to see the world. I didn't expect to stick around. I mean, the population is about the same as Tech. Not B'burg, tech.
The thing that actually got me out was the Church. On my 20th birthday I moved with 3 other guys to Columbia, SC to go to an Angilcan (sort of conservative Episcopal) church there. I'd converted not too long before and it seemed like a good idea at the time.
But conversion or no conversion, I wasn't going to live and die in that town without getting out. It's unlikely I'll live there again, but I'm not going to tempt fate by saying it would be impossible.
Peace.

Date: 2007-03-19 02:40 pm (UTC)1) Because I had a crush on you and wanted to know more about you.
2) Dar Williams, "Iowa (Travelling III)." Of course.
3) In college your bedroom had glow-in-the-dark stars on the ceiling.
4) Seeing you at Fellowship of the Ring in Roanoke when I organized a bunch of Syncad and a bunch of non-Syncad people to go on Wednesday afternoon.
5) Kiwi.
6) Why do you want a big yard?
7)
I'm also partial to the chinchilla of shunning.
8) I like your watercolors. I like that you keep getting better at them.

Date: 2007-03-19 03:21 pm (UTC)1) So you could read my flocked entries, and because you stopped updating your other web journal.
2) _Til There Was You_. Or _Labyrinth_.
3) Your high school class ring says DAVE.
4) After Jefferson Homecoming 1995, at Scott Michelman's, when I was making out with Shaye and you were making out with Jim (and Scott, I assume was making out with whoever he'd taken to Homecoming).
5) A thousand grey cats, all coincidentally going in more or less the same direction.
6) Why'd you end up at Macalester?
7)
8) You know what you want to be doing, and you're doing it, in career, life, what have you.

Date: 2007-03-19 04:23 pm (UTC)1) To get your take on the things we did.
2) "Magical Trevor."
3) You once invented a game called "Something" so that we'd have a game to play when people were being indecisive.
4) "Is this the Linux Users' Group table?" "No, this is the games club table." "Okay, that sounds cool."
5) Kumquat.
6) What's so great about Houston?
7)
It's a close thing between that one and the goomba.
8) You are amused by the same sorts of things I am, and point me to more of them.

Date: 2007-03-19 10:50 pm (UTC)Long answer, only two things I can think of. There are jobs here, many jobs, mostly tolerable. There are excellent restaurants. In fact, I could paraphrase Joel Spolsky and say that in Houston, you will go out to eat nine places this week that would be your favorite restaraunt in Blacksburg. Not that Blacksburg and NoVA have bad food, just that it's one thing Houston does well.

Date: 2007-03-19 08:16 pm (UTC)1) Because the 'n comments' and 'post comment' links in your LJ are Dar Williams references. No, seriously. I probably would have anyway since I'd met you and you're one of them gaming types, but that sealed it.
2) Oh jeez. Um. "Allison Road," the easy choice.
3) You went to the same high school I did, at the same time I did, without ever once introducing yourself. For shame.
4) Ages ago, friend-of-friend-surfing, being impressed that someone that someone I knew knew had managed to get the username "elf," and then understanding how when I saw your user number.
5) The T.rex from Dinosaur Comics, from the frame involving squashing the house.
6) Where do you want to go next?
7)
There are any number I could have picked, though.
8) You're exceedingly happy to meet new people, and make them feel welcome around you.

Date: 2007-03-20 02:24 pm (UTC)1) Because I got tired of reading your flist (full of people I didn't know or care about) but wanted to keep up with you anyway.
2) Seamus Kennedy, "The Three-Minute Hamlet."
3) It's all your fault I have a livejournal at all. By extension there are at least a half-dozen other people whose livejournal ancestry traces back to you.
4) Sitting with you in the auditorium while you were being miserable about . . . something. Skreidle, maybe?
5) A small fuzzy housecat saying "rawr!"
6) Did you actually have a crush on me, or was I making things up?
7)
8) You're snarky and clever, but not so much of either that it dominates all conversation. Plus you read good books.

Date: 2007-03-21 04:43 pm (UTC)4 - i was quite good at being miserable about things and people
6 - i did, and then when i later moved on from that, i was always kind of embarrassed because i had this situation in my head where you knew i had a crush but thought it was still going on and would make some comment based on that assumption and then everything would be awkward. mind you, that situation never actually happened, but still.

Date: 2007-03-20 03:06 pm (UTC)1) I finally found your LJ and re-met you in person, at more or less the same time, and you seemed rather neat in both places.
2) The Bawdy Balladeers, "Thing Be."
3) You once worked in the Build-a-Bear at Tysons Corner.
4) Cuddling in Vond's mother's basement the night before Virginia Faire one year.
5) Cucumber.
6) Are you where you want to be?
7)
8) You are an excellent sympathetic listener.

Date: 2007-03-20 07:05 pm (UTC)1) Because you seemed like a pretty cool guy, based on the couple of times I had met you. (Further interaction seems to bear this out.)
2) _Boondock Saints_.
3) You don't read science fiction. Just Neal Stephenson. :)
4) Trying my hardest to remember that you were /not/ related to Duffy at the Gin Blossoms concert.
5) Domo-kun.
6) Where did you get that coat?
7)
8) You play a mean game of Ticket to Ride.

Date: 2007-03-20 10:33 pm (UTC)6) I believe you must be talking about this coat (http://www.barbour.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=products.view&ProductID=10&StartRow=1&RangeID=1&New=0&PCategoryID=10&PSubCategoryID=&FeatureID=), which I bought at the Orvis on Leesburg Pike in Tyson's Corner.

Date: 2007-03-20 07:52 pm (UTC)1) Because meeting people and then suddenly losing track of them just because they've moved away sucks.
2) Duncan Sheik, "Serena"
3) You're partial to hamsters.
4) Standing in Waldenwork on a Sunday afternoon, wondering when David was going to shut up and let me talk to the cute and interesting customer he'd been monopolizing for the last hour.
5) The little white Totoro.
6) Ever going back to school?
7)
8) You're exceedingly kind-hearted and generous.

Date: 2007-03-21 01:17 pm (UTC)1) It's been so long that I don't even recall. I keep you friended because we get along an awful lot better when we're not directly interacting every single day, and you're kinda neat.
2) That godawful Geena Davis pirate movie.
3) I've known you longer than anyone else I met in Blacksburg.
4) A fall evening outside Newman hall, someone saying "This is Mandy" and us talking for maybe five minutes before you had to go somewhere and you saying "Okay, can I have a hug." (It wasn't a question.)
5) A Clydesdale. With a keg.
6) You still doing any RPGing?
7)
8) You define your life by the things you do, not by the things you wish you were doing.

Date: 2007-03-21 02:07 pm (UTC)1) Because you finally started writing things in your LJ.
2) _Men In Blk_.
3) You supplied me with what is (in some sense at least) the computer that I'm still using today.
4) Riding the bus back from TCon on Satyrday afternoon in 2006.
5) Pickle.
6) Are you happy?
7)
8) You're competent: not just in the getting-things-done sense, but in the knowing who to ask for help sense.
