In which the 'Fun' is put in "Fung Wah": "The Fung Wah is a Faustian deal of a bus ride. You got what you wanted, doctor, but now you're gonna really pay." (via [livejournal.com profile] prog)

A Discovery: sunlight helps me wake up. Well, duh. I've known this as a negative since, oh, at least since living at Imbur's, where the east-facing window provided my body with all the motivation it needed to say "Yup, time to be awake now, and no you don't get any more sleep." I hadn't thought to harness this power for good 'til today, though. This morning it occurred to me that six hours of sleep was plenty, and I was able to wake up when I wanted to, simply because there was light in the room. My sluggishness for the past few weeks can be blamed on pre-dawn waking, and not on some ridiculous need for more sleep at all. There's a limit, I'm sure, but I've not hit it yet.

Thing forgotten from yesterday's list: go by the post office and restart my mail, since the USPS is awesome and allowed me to put in a mail-stop request online.

My aunt Rita (of the "Dead Touch Florist" conversation) is, I've determined, my favorite non-blood relation. (Okay, so the competition isn't very stiff. She did manage to beat out my Methodist preacher uncle whose only comment on the 2004 election was "I watched the map light up on election night, and I got so ashamed of all the goddamn rednecks in the state of Arkansas.") After I'd sort of managed to set up Grandmother's new computer and get its internet connection mostly working, she came up to me and said "I heard you say you'd be connecting directly to the internet." "That's right," I said. "Now, is that a D.C. 'directly,' or a Southern 'directly?'" Google chose that moment to finally load up. "Both, as it happens."

And it sounds like I'll be having lunch with [livejournal.com profile] airncbuh today, since he's getting his car fixed instead of driving it to work. Cool.

Is Rita the Nutcase Aunt? I can't remember which one that was.
