A very funny comic about boardgaming.

I would totally get a Mac if I could get it etched like this. [via [livejournal.com profile] scraun23]

The Green Lantern Theory of Geopolitics: "Thus we see that problems in Iraq and Afghanistan aren't reasons to avoid new military ventures, but reasons why we must embark upon them." Good lord. [via Making Light]

So I don't forget once I get my address changed, Opt Out of easy-approve credit cards. Makes it a bit more difficult to get hit with identity theft. [via [livejournal.com profile] uilos]

And, via [livejournal.com profile] vvalkyri, a Jim Henson film festival in Silver Spring. I am definitely going to be at Mirrormask at 11:30 PM this coming Friday, and would love to see any and all of you there. I expect I'll be seeing Labyrinth at least twice as well.

So: I have Plans. They are perhaps the Plans of a madman, but they are Plans nonetheless.

Friday: Get off work. Pick up keys to apartment. Drive up to Rockville for dinner and a movie with the lovely [livejournal.com profile] uilos. Get back to my parents' house around two in the morning. Sleep briefly.

Satyrday: Wake up Too Damn Early. Be driven to Blacksburg by my insane father. Get a truck. Load it full of my stuff (and quite possibly use the leftover space for some of [livejournal.com profile] jlfranklin's). Drive it back to my parents' place, stopping briefly to unload [livejournal.com profile] jlfranklin's stuff if necessary. Collapse.

Sunday: The Move. Sleep late. Load furniture into truck if it fits; if not, curse and anticipate another trip back to parents' place. Drive truck to new apartment. Unload truck. Buy lunch for friends. Spend remainder of day getting apartment in order, and also buying groceries. Collapse, in own bed.

So: yes, the Move will be happening on Sunday, July 16. I plan on being there with a truck full of books and also furniture by eleven o'clock. I'm on the first floor, so moving in shouldn't take too long at all, and then there will be Food of some variety. You are all invited and encouraged to come and help; directions are in the Obligatory Contact Info Post.

I don't know if you saw the 154-minutes-long Superman Returns, but the attempt to associate Bush with comic book villainry was muted by the fact that Lex Luthor's "bring it on" outburst made a decent clip for the trailer but seems to come out of nowhere during the movie.

Once again I will point to George Lakoff's magnum opus, Moral Politics. Strict Father neocons perceive everything with Strength as the primary value, the veritable One Pillar of Republicanism. Any time the world does not conform to their word-value world view it's the world that is in error, not their view of it.

Speaking of the Will to Power, nothing wins hearts and minds like making up recruitment shortfalls by accepting neo-Nazis into the military (http://edition.cnn.com/2006/US/07/07/neo.nazis.in.military.reut/index.html).

Yeah. That sounds about right.
