Robins, red-winged blackbirds, equinoxes, temperature, whatever. I saw the first groundhog of the year today. He was charging (well, as much as groundhogs can charge, anyway) across the road. I guess the neighbors have better pickings than the church does. And spring, as Mr Lehrer once sang, is here.

I'm usually kind of neutral on the subject of spring. Winter and fall are pretty clearly their own seasons: you get snow and bare trees for winter, and pretty colors and the onset of nice weather in the fall. Spring and summer tend to blend together: oh, it's getting too warm again and it's allergy season, and yeah, I guess the flowers and sunlight are kinda nice. This year I've actually noticed spring coming through. Bits of greenery poking up in the forest, unfamiliar birds, the days getting longer and slightly (except for this crazy weekend) warmer. (I suspect this means that I'll just fail to notice summer this year.)

And I got paid today (or maybe yesterday), so it's definitely grocery time. And possibly mild-culinary-experiment time as well. I think my goal for the next couple weeks will be to brown some beef. Baby steps.

My culinary advice: "Just pay constant attention to your beef, and nothing bad will happen to it."
