jazzfish: an evil-looking man in a purple hood (Lord Fomax)

In a couple of months I'm going to be living in my own apartment for the first time in . . . well . . . ever. This will have certain advantages over my current residence:
  • The kitchen will be mine mine mine, not taken over by (to choose a random example) other people's fruit-fly-attracting produce / compost.
  • The temperature will remain more or less constant: if I go to bed at quarter of eleven midnight teach me to post when I'm too tired to do math and it's so warm and stuffy that I have to turn both fans on full-blast and ignore the sheets and still not be able to get to sleep for an hour, the air conditioner will not miraculously kick on and form icicles on my nose at seven in the morning.
  • Showering will no longer require putting my glasses on to check the shower stall for spiders, nor will it require waiting in line because my landlord decided today would be a good day to actually shower.
  • No dog. No scratching of dog toenails outside my door at six AM, no dogshit at the bottom of the stairs, no frantic barking whenever anyone approaches the house.
A lot of things about two months from now scare me. Moving ain't one of them.

living by myself (i did it one year), was an interesting experience. I knew that if there was a mess there was only one person at fault (well, me and 2 cats). But I have a tendency to turn sorta hermit-like if left to myself for too long.
And there was that constant back of the mind tickle of fear: if something happened to me, how long would it be before someone came to find me, and would my cats eat me?
but that's just me.
