Happy birthday to [livejournal.com profile] scathach, to whom I still owe email from like two months ago.

E & Z are on their way in. The original plan was to meet them at Game Parlor in Chantilly in about an hour. They just called to say that the clutch on E's brother's truck (being driven so that my queensize mattress and boxspring can be finally moved from my parents' place to B-burg) has died, so they're getting towed to the mechanic near my parents' place. Fortunately, my car still functions (as far as I know) so we'll be able to travel about this week/end.

Update: Actually, they'll only get towed as far as the Mazda dealer in Winchester, so that's where I'm heading. Yay fun.

Went to Cue last night for an hour or so. Decent atmosphere, music ranging from okay to decent and not so loud you couldn't have conversation at the tables. It's a pretty cool place. Had to leave when my contacts started bothering me, so I missed [livejournal.com profile] skreidle. Grr.

Yesterday afternoon I went for a walk down by the creek that runs behind my parents' old place. It's pleasantly wooded, and the creek, while small, moves fast enough that it's not really stagnating much of anywhere. I sat down on some moss next to a small ironwood (i think? the trunk was curiously uneven, almost like muscle) and just zoned for about a half hour, listening to the water and watching the ants and trees. Found a spiderweb in a sapling (actually a growth from a root of the ironwood), and after a bit of looking found the spider hiding in a leaf.

Then I got tired of all the ants crawling on me, so I convinced one to crawl onto my finger, and blew it into the spiderweb. The effect was instantaneous. The spider zipped out from his leaf so quickly I didn't see it move, and had the ant trussed up in less than ten seconds, and drained in under five minutes. Amazing. It then sat in the middle of the web, sated, daring any other insects to come by.

Thanks. And yes, you do. It's ok tho - this is the first time I've had TIME to check e-mail and LJ in a freaking MONTH. Big-ass post to follow.

Yeah. That sounds about right.
