The 'good': Microsoft chosen as exclusive Homeland Security contractor: insert your own joke here.

The bad: Careful: The FB-eye may be watching: "'Someone in the shop that day saw you reading something, and thought it looked suspicious enough to call us about.'"

The, uh, something: The Duel: in the words of Teresa Nielsen Hayden, "All hail the advent of the computer and the internet, which has put the power to do weird shit into the hands of so many."

Off to have ye horrible story from two weeks ago torn into tiny pieces by my classmates in the course of 'workshopping' it. Supposedly this will allow me to rebuild it, make it better, stronger, faster. . . or something. As this is the first peer review of something I've written that I've undergone in, oh, about TEN YEARS, and it's of something I'm not all that impressed by to start with, I'm a bit nervous. If I can survive this, I can survive anything.

What is frightening is that if you go into the Blacksburg library they have a Patriot Act sign saying that they will give information to the gubment on what we read if asked. Many librarians are refusing to do so if asked.

And once again, my respect for librarians increases....

I read this and immediately thought - you're turning your paper into the King of Spain?

funny, the places i run into that woman. the first time was on a babygoth mailing list, where someone posted a link to God and I, which i'm sure you've already read but which you should if you haven't. as someone with an odd relationship to Mormonism, it was especially interesting to me, but it's a good read in general.

and good luck with the workshopping, man. i haven't written anything worth workshopping in years, but i recall hating it when i did. >_

hard to explain -- even harder when on a hostel computer with limited minutes. suffice to say, my best friend for years and years as a child was and is a devout mormon. the fact that our relationship has soured in recent years makes me want to kill them all (it's because of his mission).. but the fact that he's my best friend just complicates everything. :P
