Spent Satyrday getting the basement ready to par-tay, since Patrick's housewarming started at two. Got the games on the shelves and art hung up everywhere except the public area. I'm quite happy to be able to see "Imagine" and "After the Rain" again. Party was; I wasn't so much in a party mood. Saw various and sundry people I sort of know; ate burgers, talked a bit about Reloaded. Eventually Z & Davebob showed up, and we + E played some Monkey Race (the courses in Monkey Race 2 are bloody insane, although still very cool) and watched Equilibrium.
Yowza. I've been slightly spoiled by the Matrix fights which went on and on; the gun battles in Equilibrium are typically only a few minutes. However, they're all good fights. Christian Bale exudes style in a way that Keanu Reeves simply never will, and Hugo Weaving only occasionally approaches. (Many more like this and he may well become the second baddest man alive.) The katana, sadly, gets very little play; it's mostly gun-kata. Speaking of which, I must second E's recommendation that
sir_alf stop whatever he's doing and go rent this now. The plot took all the best bits of several dystopias (F-451, Brave New World, 1984) and mixed them together; what emerged was surprisingly entertaining. Recommended. The final fight between Preston and Dupont is what the last Neo / Smith fight in the first Matrix should have been.
Played some Mario Party afterwards. The excessive randomness sort of gets to me, and I suck at most of the minigames. Other than that it's pretty cool, though. Then, crash. Sunday was work and Ramen for dinner and my first exposure to the insane ass-kicking that is Ikaruga. Yar.
And tomorrow it's back to the grind of classes. Well, class, at least.
