Munch exhibit opens in darkness: "The audience have to use torches to see anything at all."

Irregular Webcomic #37: "Not only does God play dice with the universe..."

Went to see Confidence on Friday night with E, K, Larom, Markush, and Patrick. Quite good. Basically a remake of The Sting, but it's got style, some good dialog ("If you get shot or stabbed or start bleeding profusely, you call a cab-- I don't need that in my car") and more cute cinematography tricks than you can shake a stick at. Most reviews complained that the audience was never really given a reason to care about the characters, and to an extent I agree-- but the point isn't so much the characters as the scheme, the set-up and the scam. Sure, some development of the dead guy (other than "He sends money to his father in the hospital") would have helped, but it wasn't critical.

Satyrday I had two or three (depending on how you count) Important Conversations, and then went to Game Day. I was feeling a bit drained, so I wasn't much fun. Played Puerto Rico again. I am so bad at that game. But it's fun, and each time I think I've learned something. I could benefit from more planning ahead of what other people are likely to do, but I don't want to run into Analysis Paralysis. Watched Strange Days afterwards with E. Good film; disturbing in parts (the two 'killer' scenes especially), and a bit slow in parts, but good. Plus it had Michael Wincott and Chris Walken lookalike William Fichtner.

Sunday I made pretty good waffles (use fresh Bisquick, and mix the eggs in last). Then worked on the Paper of Doom, then went and tromped about with K for a couple hours, because it was gorgeous outside. Dandelions and grass and mud (much mud) and %&$ nettles and tadpoles and a very cool snail and sunshine and bare feet and yeah. Good stuff. Then came home and cooked ziti (with the correct amount of pepper) for E and K. It's surprisingly satisfying to cook for people I'm close to. (Plus they both went back for seconds, which is extremely flattering.)

Today and tomorrow are Paper-days, of course. Bleh. My own fault, though.

We (well, I) went back for seconds because it was GOOD. I will have more for dinner tonight.

One of the few things I -really- liked about working at Sbarro's was learning how to make a good baked ziti and how to make stromboli.

You know, that never even occurred to me--I was just thinking flaming brands. :)

I liked the ziti too. It was tasty.
(It was tasty last time too, just required a bit much water to eat it ;)
