The woods behind Lisa&Neil's place go back a decent way. There's a fence that you have to step over, and then some brambles, and then it's woods to the top of a hill. From the top you can barely see the field off in the distance. So you go down the hill, following the trail down the shallow grade if you found it, and suddenly you're at a fence that separates woods from field.
Not as much tall grass in the field as I'd expected, but it is March. There are several stands of cedar trees, and a valley with no stream. It's relaxing.
I still can't tell if the Big Hole in the ground is man-made, but there's a small amount of water flowing through so it may just be a natural sinkhole. The rocks are pretty cool, though. They're not limestone (they don't fizz in vinegar) but something similar.
One of the several trees that had fallen over recently had curled a root around a rock... when it fell over, the root was still grabbing the rock, so there's this tree root sticking straight up and then bending ninety degrees, with a rock in the bend. Very odd. Very cool. Got a decent picture of it.

Wandered around the vetpond; tried to get into the graveyard but the gate is locked and the sign says "Call the grounds staff if you want to get in here." So, no picnic up there. Oh well. Some discussion was had. Then I slacked for the rest of the evening. Finished rereading Lord of Light... I feel better now that I've gotten my Zelazny fix. Registered for classes. (I'm actually taking a creative writing class. We'll see how that goes.) Futzed about. Life goes on.

I had a forest behind my house back home and always ran around in that ever since I can remember. I try to find people to go hiking with around here but no one wants to anymore.

Want to go to Peaks of Otter? Its not too far north of Roanoke and has a really great view at the top.

Absolutely. When were you planning on going?

mid-April-ish. Not next weekend, since I am planning on helping Partick move and not the weekend after that, since it is Game Day. Well, maybe Game Day weekend, but it would be on a Sunday. I'll let you know when I get more details hashed out.
