Apr. 20th, 2002 10:18 pmaccidentally unchecked the 'always ask me if i want to open this' checkbox from IE when downloading a zip file. hence, ten minutes of frustration at IE trying to find how to turn the checkbox back on, followed by a quick check on google. turns out it's an option that gets set in the Windows Explorer. a stupider thing i have not heard.
score: google gets ten points for finding a solution to my problem on the first try. microsoft's knowledge base gets one point for having the solution. microsoft gets negative a million zillion points for its misguided attempt to make the web browser be the same as the file browser.
bah.

Date: 2002-04-27 04:04 am (UTC)Explorer consistently has this problem where it's fighting over being part of the operating system, being a suite of applications, and being a set of utilities (like the common dialogs). It's had these issues since Windows 95. There are enough Good Things that come out of the tangled mess that is Explorer to reduce your proposed penalty to a couple hundred thousand zillion points, at most.
