it's by George R.R. Martin. _A Game of Thrones_ is the first book, _A Clash of Kings_ is the second, and _A Storm of Swords_ is the third (not yet out in paperback). The fourth is due out early next year, and the current plan is for there to be six of them. (But apparently there were only supposed to be three, so...)

my computer has a stupid number of fans (five or six, i think) so that's unfortunately not an option either. although when we move it may be.
