I thought I was taking five courses this term. (I say "term" because there are three of them a year, not two, so "semester" is wrong, and "trimester" is already taken for something else.) And if I don't get at least 50% in each of them, I have to retake them, which screws up my "graduate in two years" plan.

Turns out I'm taking a sixth course, Navigating The BCIT Bureaucracy, and if I don't get at least 50% in that it screws up my "graduate in two years" plan.

So. My tuition deferment was denied, because my student loan application wasn't active, because StudentAidBC won't even start processing the application until they receive a form from BCIT stating what courses I'm taking ("the SCCC"). I sent my signed SCCC to BCIT on Tuesday the 24th (later than I'd wanted, due to previously mentioned course change nonsense) and registered for classes on the 25th.

Registration has big huge red letters everywhere saying PAY FOR YOUR COURSES IMMEDIATELY OR YOU WILL BE DROPPED. Turns out I can't even apply for a fee deferment until after I've registered (but, obviously, before I've paid, because IF I COULD PAY I WOULDN'T NEED THE DEFERMENT). So I applied for a deferment Wednesday morning, and noticed yesterday morning that its status was DENIED.

Apparently I am supposed to a) not submit the SCCC until I'm registered, and b) send it to financial aid at the same time as my deferment. I have no idea how I was supposed to know this, I thought I had asked all the right questions but apparently not.

I sent another copy of the SCCC plus a Deferment Appeal to the finaid office yesterday. Supposedly they are expediting it. I emailed the BCIT GIS program asking them to please not drop me and got back "gosh that sucks, oh well, nothing we can do about it." I have emailed BCIT registration and have not heard back from them but as of right now I have not been dropped. I guess tomorrow is seven days without payment, maybe that's what they're waiting for. I am finding it difficult to maintain optimism.

To some extent that's because I also managed to miss my Mapping midterm last week. I'd thought it, like every other quiz and test I've taken so far, was "take it sometime during the next week," but it turns out to have been "take it sometime on Thursday." I've emailed the instructor asking for mercy but, again, not optimistic; this one was very clearly my screwup. It's not the end of all things, at least. The midterm is 25% of the grade, and I only need 50% to pass. It does, I expect, look pretty bad on any "please give me free money" applications I put together for next term, though.

My brain is definitely not functioning at full capacity here, if I needed any further evidence.

Bah. (Comments off.)

Yeah. That sounds about right.
