They're definitely sibling conditions (and some people identify with both.)

One of the new ADD things is that one of the big researchers explains it as not being an attention disorder, but a time perception disorder-- there are two times: now, and not now. (and coping involves rigorous scheduling & having clocks always accessible.)

Neither I nor my brother ever had the hyperactivity presentation, & my kid only does in some situations, so it's definitely not universal.

Also while autism hyperfocus is usually described as a deep-dive thing, ADHD hyperfocus is actually an inability to *stop* focusing. Which phrasing was useful to me for reconceptualizing things like semi-addictive phone games & the inability to put down a book & go to sleep...
