Date: 2023-01-24 02:06 am (UTC)One of the new ADD things is that one of the big researchers explains it as not being an attention disorder, but a time perception disorder-- there are two times: now, and not now. (and coping involves rigorous scheduling & having clocks always accessible.)
Neither I nor my brother ever had the hyperactivity presentation, & my kid only does in some situations, so it's definitely not universal.
Also while autism hyperfocus is usually described as a deep-dive thing, ADHD hyperfocus is actually an inability to *stop* focusing. Which phrasing was useful to me for reconceptualizing things like semi-addictive phone games & the inability to put down a book & go to sleep...
