I have been stuck in YVR for several hours due to first a Westjet system-wide computer outage and then just Westjet being terrible. So I write about my cat.
We're learning to get along, Mr Tuppert and I. He's settling in. He doesn't startle quite so much at every sound, though people in the hallway are still Suspicious, and he'll preferentially sleep the day on the chair in the living room where he's closer to me. Yesterday I had the ottoman up behind the chair I'm using as a work-chair, and he dozed on it, and batted at my back when I wasn't paying sufficient attention to him.
He's come in to see me every night when I go to bed, which is very sweet and encourages me to wind down with a book instead of just trting to sleep immediately.
On the other hand he's not a lap cat. Or maybe not yet a lap cat. I might be able to tempt him eventually but it hasn't worked yet.
He's also still not a vocal cat. I've heard him quiet-annoyed-yowl maybe a half-dozen times, and nothing more. He doesn't even have an 'activation noise,' where you pet a cat who's asleep and they 'mrrp?' adorably because you've just woken them up, and then they usually settle back to sleep immediately.
I suspect he may have had a rough home-life in at least one of his homes. Last Sunday morning I broke my glass teapot, which startled him awake, and I let out a brief yell of surprise / frustration, and he was gone under the bed, where he remained for a good part of the day. I could coax him out by lying down and sticking my arm in to offer scritches, and he'd come out for a bit. But at the least noise from the hallway he was gone again. Poor guy.
He's pretty well-behaved. I suspect (based on the dusty footprints) that he's getting up on the table at night, but he does know he's not supposed to be up there and gets down when I see & remind him. When he's overstimulated he'll grab at my hand and bite: not to break skin, just to put teeth on it. I'd thought he was doing this specifically when he didn't want to be petted but a couple of times he's pulled my hand in from a ways away, just to bite it. We're learning that Biting Is A No; trying to teach that without raising my voice. Which is easier since he's not drawing blood. Learning together.
Yeah. Yesterday he was just super chill and happy and enjoying/demanding scritches, at least up until the point where the storm kicked up and then the power went out. I'm glad he's relaxing. I hope being gone for a week doesn't undo all of that.

He is definitely relaxing and showing signs of trademark cat insouciance, which is nice. :)
