Closing is on Thursday. I am flying into Vancouver on Thursday morning. Specifically, I am either driving the two hours into Prince George tomorrow night and getting a hotel and waking up at four AM to go to the airport, or I am waking up at two AM in my own bed and driving the two hours into Prince George. I am leaning towards the latter since that way at least I'll get some sleep.
(I am currently scheduled to fly back on Saturday, getting into Prince George at eleven PM, and then either driving two hours at midnight or getting a hotel. With any luck I will be able to get on an earlier flight the day of, and also that is a post-closing problem.)
Insurance: required for signing. I hope hope hope this is taken care of. I have a "confirmation of insurance" that I will send to the lawyer tomorrow morning and with any luck it will suffice.
Down payment: found out yesterday that the lawyer requires more money than just the remainder of the down payment, which is not in the easy-to-access bank account. Immediately took steps to move money into the easy-to-access bank account and with any luck it will get there by Thursday; if not, I take out a short-term cash advance on my credit card.
Down payment, part 2: The bank opens at 9:30 AM. The lawyer, who is physically very close to the bank, requires the money by 10 AM (technically the lender requires this). I am cutting this Exceedingly Fine, but in my defence the lawyer didn't fucking tell me he needed the money by 10 AM and I figured I had til close of business. My bank, which is staffed by very nice people, has a strong bias against delivering money not in person, so I will show up and hope to god they don't delay me.
Signing things: Turns out the lender also requires that all the things be signed by 10AM. Initial plan to go down for the closing and just Sign All The Things In Person has been foiled by the stupid bloody lender. But I have all the things that need signed, and I have an appointment with a notary for tomorrow afternoon. I can email the signed things to the lawyer tomorrow afternoon (sufficient), and hand-deliver the originals to the lawyer on Thursday.
Power: have put in a request for power with the New Westminster utility company. For reasons that are unclear to me New West, like a handful of other municipalities in BC, does not use BC Hydro but instead has its own thing. I expect I will appreciate this at some point but in the meantime it is Yet Another Hassle.
Work: you may have heard that there was a big Java security hole discovered over the weekend. A bunch of our drivers use the specific Java component that needs patched (log4j), so we're going to be creating a lot of releases incorporating the patch. This is mostly not my problem because I'm off work after tomorrow, but I may end up logging into work while traveling. Not the worst thing, just One More Thing.
Also I am cold, because it finally decided to be winter and is around -12, and new windows don't help as much as I'd hoped they would. I am slowly nudging the heat up and it helps for awhile and then I get cold again. Possibly because the sun goes down. There may be a hot bath in my near future.
And on Friday I get the keys from Rhonda and go check out the condo with a tape measure, and complain about how nothing will actually fit dammit. I am in theory looking forward to that part.
