Honestly I've had a much worse time of it from Canadian border patrol than US. For awhile the US guys would take my passport and vanish for like twenty minutes, and then give it back to me with "okay, you're not the six-foot-two John Taylor with a neck tattoo who's wanted in several jurisdictions, so you can go," and that was annoying.

Canadian have threatened to not let me renew my work permit, hassled me for trying to go through the NEXUS lane when they had closed it fifteen minutes early, and generally seemed to feel a need to be as Big And Tough as they perceive the americans to be.

Edit: but the Canadians do consistently say "Welcome home," which is pretty great.
