I think she's looking at comments as a result of engagement, not as something you can do to promote engagement? I mean, comments are the way that one /has/ community on DW. (That and communities, I guess, which I never really got the hang of even on LJ.) So, yeah, definitely leave comments and talk to people! But I think this is more along the lines of "how can i make my journal a place where people will want to comment."

And even at that it's incomplete. [personal profile] rydra_wong has a couple of link roundups over the last few days that go into more depth. I'm not linking because, well, they feel like more calculation than I'm willing to put into it? The nice thing about Siderea's recipe is that it's basically "here is a simple way to adapt what you're already doing."

(but yes. yay comments! comments are good for the ego.)
