When I was making my first sweater (having made countless hats and things beforehand without too much trouble), I ended up making five sleeves in the course of the thing. Sometimes the only solution to a problem is really to pull it all out and start over again, even if you do know how to surf a dropped or missing stitch upwards through your rows.

(I just read things about how to knit; Youtube didn't really help at the time. Nobody ever pointed out how to do the surfing trick, though - it was just something I eventually figured out, I suppose by way of spending enough time with the stitches to see how they all twined together. I imagine it happens similarly for other people who knit long enough.)
