Glad you enjoyed it. I think Cerberus was written in the early seventies, but I could be wrong; in any event, it was written under the tutelage of Damon Knight, who definitely belongs to the Golden Age.

Wolfe is in fact an American, but the settlers are French. Do the French have the same billion/trillion wackiness?

Wolfe generally avoids being overly clever, though I maintain that There Are Doors is an exercise in "how much clever can I pack into one book?" I'm not really in a position to recommend more of his stuff myself, not having read it, but Emily thinks highly of The Knight, and I found The Island of Doctor Death and Other Stories and Other Stories to be most entertaining. And New Sun is quite good, but I don't know if it'd be to your taste.
