to the last farthing

jazzfishCurrently sitting in YUL waiting to go home from the last Farthing Party. Many excellent people and good conversations. A++ WOULD CON AGAIN. (Oh. Right.)
I like Montreal an awful lot, at least the bits that we got to see. The tiny urban parks and the row houses around Sherbrooke with their sweeping iron staircases make me happy, and there's just something about the architecture and the design (?) that give it a sense of permanence and place that Vancouver lacks. I think if I couldn't live in Vancouver I'd be happy in Montreal. I have no particular opinion about YUL: it's smallish and some amount of it seems to be under construction, but on the other hand it has very comfy seats and a dedicated NEXUS line which doesn't use Rapiscans.
The con itself... I stayed up late talking about books and indie RPGs and more books, I met several cool people, I ate a lot of good food. I only had to bash the social brainweasels[1] a few times before they shut up. I missed Sherwood, but I got to spend at least a little time with just about everyone else I'd known I'd wanted to see, and with several that I hadn't.
[1] "You don't know anybody, nobody wants to talk to you, nobody remembers you, you don't belong here." You know. THOSE brainweasels.
Also got a bit of email written, and a bit of story bashed into place. Good times.

24) See ten movies at the Vancouver International Film Festival. (0/10) VIFF starts for me when I get back from Farthing Party. Due to poor planning I've only got two VIFFs before the end of the 1001, not three, so I'll have to catch five movies per year. Good thing they sell five-film discount ticket packages.
34) Expand, revise, & submit "In the City of Memory." The easier comments from critique integrated. To do: subtle plausibility-building, more oomph to the big climactic scene.
36) Write, revise, & submit story #4. Blood-mages. In progress.
47) Play or purge all the unplayed boardgames in my collection, except for Italia. (9/13) Gemblo went in a trade several months ago.
55) Figure out something to be done for my stupid lungs. Been using an inhaler before I run; seems to help.
60) Run 5 km in 25 minutes. 35:57
63) Climb the Grouse Grind at least once each summer. (1/3) 2013-09-08, 1:38
90) Read or purge everything currently on the To Be Read shelf. (12/25) Purged Hope Dies Last, as neither oral history nor US history are really my thing.
