So we're going out of town this afternoon, off to San Jose del Cabo at the tip of Baja California. The theory was that having some sun in the middle of the grey winter would do us some good. I think the week-long Vacation has turned out to be more important, though.

Hoping to get some actual writing in, as well as wading through my backlog of email. And, you know, wandering around the town or whatever it is that people do on vacations.

(If you're interested in a literal reenactment of a Girlyman song, email your address to this account name at warpmail dot net and I'll see what I can do.)

101 in 1001 update (the list)

Completed:

77) Stay under budget on discretionary purchases for a month. Yay for January. I went slightly overbudget on household misc and of course the tickets to Mexico were expensive, but on the random day-to-day stuff like eating out and books/games and such I remained safely under limit.

98) Load "The Hire" short films onto my phone, as a proof-of-concept. More trouble than I'd expected, due to the odd configuration of the DVD and then some clunkiness in HandBrake's interface. But I now have all eight of these early-2000s BMW short films on my phone. They work reasonably well, though I wouldn't want to try watching anything of any length with someone else. Now to rip and import the second and third House of Cards (UK) DVDs, for the plane.

In progress:

1) Travel outside the US/Canada. Leaving today...

27) See a concert by an artist I'm unfamiliar with. Tickets purchased for Veronica Falls, a Brit group I've heard about half of a song by.

47) Play or purge all the unplayed boardgames in my collection, except for Italia. (5/13) Played Das Amulett, a two-level auction game.

78) Stay under budget on discretionary purchases for six months. That's 'consecutive.' One down.

90) Read or purge everything currently on the To Be Read shelf. (4/25) I"m hauling Opening Up and the two Walter Jon Williams cyberpunk books along with me this week.

92) Reread the oeuvre of John M. Ford. (1/13) Read Web of Angels, his first novel.

99) Give blood four times in a year. (1/4) 2013-01-29. I used to give blood on a regular basis, until the American Red Cross decided that living in Germany from 1979-1982 made me a Mad Cow. The Canadian Red Cross is slightly less stupid about that sort of thing. Just as stupid about 'sex with a man even once,' though.

Have a WONDERFUL time! Baja is, imo, one of the most beautiful places.

Yeah. That sounds about right.
