jazzfish: A small grey Totoro, turning around. (Totoro)

So John Cale, one of my very favorite musicians, is playing a concert in Brooklyn in January. Specifically, he's playing the entirety of one of his best albums, plus a variety of other songs including stuff from his new album.

This is deeply tempting, not least because Cale is seventy years old and this might be my last chance to see him perform. I'm still bitter about not going to see Pink Floyd* on the Division Bell tour when I was in high school. And in 2000 I was in DC in mid-October for Rennfest when I drove past State Theatre in Falls Church. The marquee proclaimed that Warren Zevon would be there at Halloween, and I'm still kicking myself for not coming back up for that. To the left, the David Bowie concerts I've seen have both been amazing.

* I have a strong preference for David Gilmour over Roger Waters. It was Pink Floyd as far as I'm concerned.

On the other hand, NYC, in January. This might need to replace the "go somewhere warm and bright in march" plan that I'm counting on to get me through spring. I understand there are a few interesting things to do in NYC but I'm not entirely sure I want to visit in the dead of winter.

Will take some pondering. Though not too much, I guess, since the Good Seats are already gone.
