So I went to Key West with uilos last weekend, and had a really good time. I also got a reasonably bad sunburn on my nose and scalp despite slathering the former in sunblock and buying a hat for the latter. Too little too late, but at least I have a hat. I did not see any tiny purple octopi (octopodes, whatever), sadly.

I am also drowning in work and will provide an actual trip report later. Hopefully tonight or tomorrow. Worst case, sometime the week after Labor Day. (Well, worst case is I never get around to it, but then you'd never get to hear about the stingrays who wanted to come to dinner.)

Mostly this is in the nature of I ATEN'T DEAD. So, yeah.

Even more pathologically I've always wanted to drive. but the math on gas costs make flying and taking a boat much more sensible.

When I went with the Boy Sprouts we took an overnight train to Miami. That was pretty sweet. The part where we took an 80-foot three-masted schooner to Key West was even more sweet, but was kind of the point of the trip.

And, you can fly straight into Key West (well, with a transfer in Miami or Tampa or somewhere). Or fly into Miami, rent a car, and drive there.

that's all very practical, but what I really wanted was to cruise in my now shattered car all the way down 95 in the bright sun with the open road..
but as I was saying, at 1,232 mi each way.. and if I was lucky 20 mpg..
2400/20 = 120 gallons of gas * say 3$ a gallon = $360
where as air fair is indeed about $235 with fees and taxes..

Actually, there is an airport on Key West that you can fly straight from Atlanta to, I know.

Miss the Key West. Want to go back.

Oh, cool, I didn't realise it flew to places further away than Tampa.

It was a lot of fun, although I really should have gone in a month other than August.
