ah, the weekend

Thursday: Skipped going out to Martinsburg with my mother to have T-giving with my sister on the grounds that A) my sister and b) Martinsburg. Instead I went to a smallish orphans' T-giving in Adams Morgan. There I spectated at J--'s first attempt at cooking T-giving dinner, chopped cranberries (which look creepily like oversized holly berries), made gravy, petted fluffy cats, and generally felt more at home than I would have if I'd spent the holiday at "home" with family.

Friday: Had a nice leisurely morning. uilos made wonderful homemade cinnamon rolls and I got to sleep in. Afterwards, we went for a walk down along Difficult Run (very muddy). Then, an utterly delectable dinner at Zengo with nixve.

Satyrday: Had a tasty and cathartic brunch with jude at the Silver Amphora in Herndon and did not spend the entire time angsting and dithering, moved furniture, went to ABG, learned a new game about selling vegetables, mostly had fun.

Sunday: Ice cream, followed by an excellent time at Tribal Cafe with nixve and tamnonlinear and D--. Had another "world too small" moment in the midst of a "boys are stupid" rant. (Seriously, people, Jefferson was NOT THAT BIG.)

Overall: A pretty good weekend. How about you?

I played Loyang with my Mom both Friday night and Saturday evening. I think it's the best of Uwe's three games if you have two players.

I need to actually get my "games I've played" updated...

I didn't much care for Agricola (partly I couldn't get my head around everything that needed to be done ALL AT ONCE, and partly I felt like I was constantly being blocked from everything I wanted to do). And I only played Le Havre once and it took 3 hours for a 3-player game, which is excessive. So I'd have to agree with you, even if you have more than two players. :)

I don't mind any of the three, but yeah Agricola feels like "work" to me all the way to the end: there's things to do and "life" getting in the way (in the form of food and harvest) and you never really feel like you get to exactly where you want to be by the end. Le Havre is longer (though our three-player games clock in under 2 hours), but you get a chance to race your economic engine toward the end and it's just more FUN. Agricola is shorter but feels longer.

I've played Loyang two and three and just had a lot more fun with two. I still need to see how the four-player pseudo-partner simultaneous-turn thing works, but I'm expecting I'll pull this out for a meaty two-player most often.

Um... I started out misreading this as you decided to not to go to Martinsburg to exchange t-shirts with your sister, which seemed even more reasonable to skip than distant & unpleasant holiday meals. Glad there was a preferable alternative.

Jefferson may not have been that big, but it did have a vastly disproportionate number of the semi-local interesting people in it.

The thing is, that wasn't even the most recent "world too small" moment. Monday morning I suddenly realised that the interesting polyamorous thirtysomething Seattleite I'd encountered on BoardGameGeek back in March? Yeah, she was a year behind me and we vaguely knew each other. THERE IS NO ESCAPE.

I love Tribal because the dancers are strong and funny and wonderful, but I keep going back to Tribal Cafe because the other people there are made of awesome and hug me. I am glad you are part of that now.

Absolutely! General info: last Sunday of every month (including December), at the Asylum in Adams Morgan, doors open at six, cover's $10 and bring ones to tip the dancers. Will provide a more specific reminder closer to time.
