Also, in a surprising development, I can totally take my laptop to the coffee shop and still get some writing done.

It occurs to me that I probably can't call the main character Bella if I expect anyone to take this seriously. Even if she is a hard-drinking Southern mechanic / clockworker instead of a teenaged vampire groupie. Curse you, Stephenie Meyer.

I do some of my best work in coffee shops. Sometimes I get too easily distracted at home, and end up on facbeook or reading archived advice columns or somesuch way too much.

The Internet is actually the perfect distractatool for me, as long as I'm not chatting or playing a Flash game. It gives me something else to do for five minutes or so and then I alt-tab back to the document. If I don't have any distractions I quickly grow tired and cranky with whatever it is I'm forcing myself to focus on.

Luckily there was internet in the Silver Spring *$. Perhaps even more luckily it was pretty flaky internet, good for refreshing LJ and checking email and not much else.

It's the noise of places that aren't home that gets to me. Wasn't so bad I couldn't write last night, though.

That would probably be alright, minor character and all that. On the other hand, I assume you have more taste than to have read _Twiglet_.

Ah. Not a lot of room for confusion there, really, this Bella's more of a dog person. So far as she's into animals at all. :)

I get some of my best writing done at either Panera or Chipotle of all places. There are fewer distractions like cats or other work and so I can write 'til I'm done.

As for Bella, I fear you might be right. That name might be off limits for a while, not unlike Hermione.

See, for me it's all the distractions of being in a new! different! place! that I expected to, well, distract me. Except that they mostly don't, I can still sink my attention into the laptop and just /write/. (With mental breaks to check email or LJ or whatever.)

Keeping on doing whatever it is is rarely the hard part; it's /starting/ it that trips me up. (Also finishing, but that's a whole nother issue.)
