Cosmic Encounter was, I think, the first 'real' boardgame I owned. It got an awful lot of play while I lived in Apartment Six. Sometimes I think I ought to play it more often these days.

Quotes get used because someone else has already said whatever it is I want to say, better. At least I think they have. Often that's because I don't trust how I'd say it. Which leads us into. . .

Writer is consistently the first word that comes to mind when I describe myself. One of my biggest fears is that it's not accurate. Time to do something about that.

There were 4 games salvaged.

One is the newest version of Cosmic Encounter. Its one of Tom's favorite games

I love tea - sweetened, unsweetened, milk and sugar for hot. Iced either sweet or not. It is one of my favorites.

Singer is one of the words I use for myself - ironic I have stage fright, right?

Yay! I'm glad you saved the new Cosmic. It looks very pretty, though I've not gotten a chance to see it yet. After the travesty that was the Avalon Hill version, and the 'quite functional but very plain' Mayfair edition, it's nice to see someone doing justice to it.

Ack, adulterated tea! :) I drink mine black if hot, or heavily sweetened if iced. (No matter how much I may try to deny it and cover it up, the parts of me that didn't grow up mil-brat are Southern.)

And, thank you! I'd love to hear you sing sometime.

Oh, yeah. Except that I could say that about describing myself as an archaeologist, too, which still seems to be what I say when people ask.

A friend of mine says it's a question of whether you're defined by what you do or what you are. This sounds suspiciously like the 'faith vs works' argument between some strands of Xianity. Since I was raised pretty firmly in the 'faith without works is dead' camp, I know where I end up, no matter how harmful I may think it is.

CVS was decent. Since I'm not sure what I was looking for, that must be it. :) And yeah, email good.

I've never played Cosmic Encounter, but I've heard good things. It's on my list of games to try if I can find an opponent with a copy.

Cosmic is an odd beast. It's too complex to be a party game, and too lightweight and chaotic to be a strategy game, and quite random, and potentially somewhat on the long side. And despite all that it manages to be a lot of fun with the right people (geeks willing to be sociable and not hyper-competitive, mostly-- still competitive, but not so much that it's the end-all be-all). It's kind of an "experience" game, where you play to be playing and to see what crazy things will happen. Sure, you're trying to win, but that's not why you play.

As for words. . . hm, tricksy with someone I don't know all that well.
