The weirdly scattered rain yesterday meant that I got a rainbow on my way to D&D yesterday afternoon. Nice fat bands, and an end somewhere near the East Falls Church metro station. I didn't see it for long; maybe thirty seconds, before I turned off the main road. Still, it made me happy.

Then afterwards a good solid thunderstorm for a bi. Jagged white lightning all across the sky on my way home, and enough rain that at times I couldn't see ten feet in front of me. I've missed weather.

This morning the air had cooled off and dried out enough that running was just a touch easier than the past few days. Too, the heavy rain meant the trees were still soaked, so every time a breeze came through I got a mini-rainstorm. Made for an almost pleasant run.

I feel . . . restless. Wanting to do something different. It's not burnout, or if it is then I've been burnt out for years. It's not a need for a nap or an evening Off. It's just. . . overexposure, maybe. Today I like where I am except that it bores me.

Sunday is likely to be a day of Buying Things. Perhaps Vibrams, perhaps a new desk chair.

something different: have no idea if you'd be interested, or know anyone else who would be, but I've been vaguely contemplating sending out feelers about a writing/workshopping group. Very small, localish, probably invitation only, but with enough of an actual meeting up occasionally component to make people actually get around to producing something.

I'm an old friend of jazzfish from... well, I don't even know from where or when, exactly. Origins of 2000, maybe? Somewhere in the murky past. We haven't actually seen each other in years, but I moved to the D.C. area about a year ago for grad school.

I wanted to drop you a note because I've been casually trying to find a writing group in the area. I've embarked on a new writing project and would love the opportunity to give and receive feedback and become more firmly entrenched in the writing process. I realize I'm pretty much a stranger, but if you're interested in another person and you're willing to give me at least a one-time shot, I'd love the opportunity. Feel free to send me a note on LJ.

Oh gosh, I know. I can't believe I've been back on the mainland for this long already. I still miss Hawaii a lot, but if I spend a lot of time thinking about it I realize that I don't remember the minutiae as clearly as I used to... you know, the street names, the best way to get to that one beach, etc. I guess that just leaves the important stuff, like feeling of floating in the Pacific ocean on a cool morning, or the sight of the almost-daily rainbows.

I've been ridiculously busy since I moved out here. Grad school, and buying a house, and entertaining all the family that thought the flight to Hawaii was too long but are now eager to be a bigger part of our lives. I'm sure my level of busy-ness is not going to decrease significantly any time soon, but I sure would love to hang out with you folks before you end up moving to Canada or the like. :) What does your schedule for August look like?

Potentially? See my comment/reply to jazzfish below. (also FYI, I'm practically in Baltimore these days, so "centrally located" for me is farther north than most people)

I have a vague recollection of having heard of the cat vacuuming society once, and I've also taken a brief look at a couple other things but not been brave or interested enough to explore. Because of my experience with the (generally rather awful) Oberlin CRWR department, I'm a bit wary of ending up in a group of people that think of fantasy as a lower lifeform.

Keep me posted on your interest, I guess... to the extent I had vague thoughts they were in the meeting once a month-ish sort of range, with a set deadline to share anything for workshopping/feedback/whatever. And, you know, then we pick our favorite semi-central restaurant or coffee shop and pretend we're good with constructive criticism.

Also possibly a beginning session of a few interested parties just getting together to discuss "this is what I read, this is what I write, this is what I want out of a writing group" might be worthy?
