Origins report!

Wednesday morning of Origins:
9:00 Depart from Rockville.
9:05 Get on 270N at exit 4.
9:06 Get passed by fire engine. Notice black plume of smoke up ahead. Swear.
9:40 Pass still-burning trash truck at exit 6.
Other than that, the trip to Columbus was uneventful. We got to the Lab shortly before five and discovered that setup was complete, so we retrieved Chris, hung around for a bit, and then went out for Ongolian.
I ran four rounds of Fluxx plus the finals, and assisted with the first two rounds of Zendo. This seems to be about the right amount of Work. I spent a good deal of time in the Board Room this year, which kept me from Lab overload and from having to demo things. It also netted me a copy of Leo Colovini's Masons, since Rio Grande was giving away a lot of their overstock.
Speaking of acquisitions, I picked up TZAAR and GIPF sets 2 and 3, so my GIPF collection is now complete, for real this time. (Although I see on the GIPF website that the new publisher is trying to talk Kris Burm into replacing PÜNCT with another game, so who knows.) Other than that I mostly spent money at the Indie Press Revolution booth. Picked up a very weird (even for me) game called Noumenon, and a game about the journey of the Tripitaka monk, and one that looks like it's Mage taken to its logical extreme. Plus another fairy tale game, and one about Greek heroes beating things up. ("AGON is my take on D&D: the heroes go on quests, fight monsters, become more powerful, and eventually retire.")
I taught Pikemen to Chris, and he seems to have taken to it pretty well (he found a counter to my fairly powerful two-player opening). Icehouse I've already mentioned. Learned a couple of games from
jsciv and taught one or two as well. Got in several games of Race. Failed to play Titan with the pretty new reprint. Oh well. Also got to play in a Nobilis LARP, which was a lot of fun.
And I got to totally freak out
zyxwvut as he was on his way out the door, which was easily worth the price of admission. (No worries and no hard feelings; we really didn't make a big deal out of it at all.)
Overall, one of the better Origins experiences I've had. Good times.

Breakin' the Zyx
Date: 2008-07-04 01:48 am (UTC)And thanks again for your assistance in the Zendo tournament. Sorry to have made it necessary to shift your massage.
I got in one game of RftG, which I like mighty fine, with Stout Yeoman and S___ (PhD Rabbit, last name is almost a kind of British cheese) and a total stranger who happened to own the game (because there wasn't one available. S___ really got the game, on his first play, and his enthusiasm was catching. He bemoaned not being able to find it, and I told him he could come over any time. %-}

P.S.: Sure, MAKE it a tough choice between using my Zendo icon and my Wedding icon. Aargh.
