Pecan pie is trivially easy to make. I mean, really. Mix syrup, sugar, eggs, butter. Mix in pecans. Pour into pie shell. Bake. I suppose if you're making the crust from scratch, or hulling your own pecans, it's a bit trickier. But seriously. Why do people insist on making apple all the time?

It turns out okay even if you're using Karo syrup instead of either corn syrup or real maple syrup. (Karo tastes like plastic pancakes. I have no idea why my father likes it.)

Sadly, with Duke's passing last year I think we won't be randomly getting huge loads of pecans from the tree anymore. Oh well. I've got enough left from the last batch to make two more pies when I feel so inspired.

Off to execute Secret Project Rock. Update tonight or (more likely) tomorrow.

Pecan pie is awesome. Walnut pie made the same way is equally great. I *do* make my own pie crusts, but I figure it's probably better that way, because it makes it enough work that I don't bake pies too often. They're yummy, but not exactly healthy. :) We used to get a big bag of walnuts every Christmas from a relative with trees, so I grew up with walnut pie and was probably in high school or maybe even college before I caught on to the fact that the rest of the world eats pecan pie. :) Either way, yum!

I have no idea what Secret Project Rock is, but I guess that's because it's a Secret Project. Hope you're having fun!

I was thinking about trying a cashew pie next: I'm a lot more partial to cashews than pecans. I hadn't even considered walnuts. Yum indeed.

I used to hate pecan pie (it's very common down here, pecans are the State Nut even. Don't you wish your state had a nut?). For some reason, since coming back, I finally get it. It's quite tasty. I think I may even prefer it to chocolate pie. Definitely if there's bourbon sauce.

Well, we used to have George Allen ("He speaks entirely in a patois constructed of football metaphors") to kick around, but that's not really the same thing.

That has a name? Awesome! I always just called it chocolate pecan pie.
