Polling Place: "And that's why" for me, too.

I can only echo PNH's comment: Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha. The customers that pissed me off the most when I worked at Waldens were the ones calling to berate us for not having copies of the swift-boat book in stock. Because clearly we were a buncha libruls who wanted to keep the truth from getting out at the expense of our business. The article also contains the unintentionally honest quote "They’ve structured their business essentially as a scam." Well, yes. And now you're shocked to find yourselves on the receiving end?

I went and got a flu shot on Monday for the first time. Pretty painless, and now I'm safe (more or less) from the predations of the influenza virus. Unexpectedly encountered Dan-the-grad-student, doing billing work for the doctor giving the shot. Dan used to come to Spiel a few years ago, until classes got to be too much for him. Now he's in Oakton and potentially interested in more gaming.

Voted yesterday. Later than last year, but even taking that into account there were a lot fewer people. I guess state races aren't as sexy as national ones. I've been mail-bombed for the past three weeks with negative ads from the House Republican candidate; the sense of joy I got from throwing them in the trash faded after the fifth or sixth and was replaced by irritation every time I opened my mailbox. So, yay for that being over, and more yay for Ms Vanderhye for her victory.

Woke up this morning slightly woozy and with a sore throat. "Aw, crap," I thought, "what is this? It's like a really low-level case of . . . oh, right." Nice warm red sore spot on my upper arm where they stuck me, too. Could be worse, I guess.

I know that poetry form has a name, but I can't for the life of me remember it. Any ideas?

Um. Um. Yes. The villanelle, the most restrictive of all sandwich forms.

There's a line in that poem driving me crazy: "What isn't was or might be[, (description of meaning of might in this situation).]." Huh? Am I dumb?

Flu shot - aw, sorry. I just got the muscle ache at the injection site, and I got mine Monday, too. [Knocking on wood.] The FAQ sheet my GP's office distributes/posts seems to indicate that most people WON'T react the way you did, but it's sort of common word-of-mouth semi myth that "people" can or will get a mild version of the 'flu from the vaccine.

I'm not really sure. Maybe if the can had rolled in the past, it might roll in the future? Not that I can tell what 'might' is doing in the poem anyway, when it's not in the sentence.

Stupid flu. I'm not sure why I bothered, really; I rarely get really sick, and the vaccine's not too likely to defend against my annual (mild) flu.

I get the flu shot tomorrow. Since work is offering the shot I wonder if I get a free sick day if I get the flu. Wouldn't it be great if you get a shot and then get some sort of consolation prize if you get sick from the illness you were not supposed to get? Maybe a year's supply of Turtle Wax. Unless you die, then it would suck slipping out of the coffin because of the freaking wax.

Heh. Supposedly most people don't get stupid flu symptoms, but then supposedly this year's flu is particularly virulent so the vaccine is a bit worse than normal.

Sympathy for the cold. Do they let you get vaccinated if you're sick with something else?

Yeah. I really need to strike while the iron is hot. In the few days between when you directed me to that King's Quest Collection on Amazon and when I actually decided to log in and buy it, the cheap one disappeared and now I can only get a used copy for like $70.
