My Cryptonomicon Rant

I read Crypto about a year after it came out. For the first two-thirds I was hooked. "This is brilliant!" I said. "There are all these wonderfully disparate plotlines, and new bits keep getting dropped in here and there. It's going to be marvelous watching him tie all these together at the end!" At about that point I suddenly realised that he wasn't going to tie them all together. And indeed he didn't: he tied up one of the past plotlines, and the rather boring present-day plotline, and the rest just sort of petered out. Bleh.

(I'm still tired most of the time but other than that I'm doing much better, thanks.)
