a reading, with actual planning

Now that I've caught my breath and gotten my bearings back, it's time to do some actual planning. Satyrday, April 28, at my place, starting at seven, I'm hosting a Reading. Bring yourself and something (or perhaps several somethings) to read aloud, that you expect other people to enjoy. Or just bring yourself and soak up the atmosphere and conversation.

I can provide tea and various cola-based beverages, and some variety of munchies as well. Should you desire alcohol, I'm afraid you'll need to supply your own, though it's perfectly welcome.

What to read? Individual pieces preferably no longer than about fifteen minutes, and closer to ten is probably better. Read it through once, out loud, beforehand. This will give you an idea of how long it is (longer than you think), and also familiarize you with the unexpectedly weird words and phrases. I'll be reading mostly John M. Ford; definitely a trimmed-down version of "All Our Propagation" and probably another poem or three as well. (Be forewarned: I may attempt to draft others present into reading, or singing, bits of "A Little Scene to Monarchize.")

...oh, i wish i could. and any weekend subsequent to that one, i would. but a combination of the German PRAXIS test and a prearranged babysitting gig (at least the boys are cute) prevents me. sigh.

Yeah, as far as I can tell everybody I know down there is alright. Reports have trickled in over the course of the day and I think everyone has said 'I'm ok.' Thanks for checking.

(Also, you and GF are absolutely invited to the reading. Also also, congrats on house-things! I have had a 'congrats' card half-written for like a week now since I have your address and everything, but life keeps interfering with finishing it.)

Thanks for the invite. It sounds fun, though since I've just popped in to your journal (hi journal!), I think I must have missed the lead up. Is this one in a series of readings and what type of things do people read?

I've recently started working a second job - rah, grad school debt - so I work that night until between 8:30pm and 9:00pm. How late are you guys reading/hanging? Assuming the two shows that day haven't killed me (I'm Box Office managing), then I would be up to stopping by and reading(/singing?)something. Are you still over by Tysons?

Actually, it's all pretty vague. I'm not sure what I expect people to read: poetry, short stories, whatever. I did one of these several years back that ended up being primarily short fiction.

If it goes well it's one in a series. Otherwise it's just a fizzling out of a neat idea.

Still by Tysons, yeah. If you're logged in you should now be able to view the address and directions. There will definitely still be people there that late; if readings slow down we'll just switch over into games, or sitting around talking, or whatever.
