Well, that was busy.
Friiday I went up to Rockville in the early afternoon to minister to and be company for a slightly sick
uilos. Then we took sandwiches and headed into the district to listen to Mr Neil. He did "The Day the Saucers Came" (which he also did at Balticon) and "A Study in Emerald" (which he didn't; he very nearly read "How To Talk To Girls At Parties" but remembered before he got started that yes, he'd read that last time he was in the area).
uilos and I were about the only ones giggling at the recitation of Elder Gods in their benign dominion over various parts of the earth, but oh well. (Does no one read Lovecraft anymore, or was it only funny if you're looking for it?) Then he signed, and apparently signed and signed and signed, and signed some more. We were fortunate enough to catch him before he got ridiculously tired, so I got the cover of my _Books of Magic_ done in silver, and the title page to _Fragile Things_ in purple (with the words "Your Book!" in a box).
Satyrday we went to Faire, since it turned out that
jpenamelist and
tparnell weren't going on Sunday, and Mo and
airncbuh were. So we went, and briefly saw lots of people, and wandered about with Mo and
airncbuh and
antikate and Lana. I traded up my beltpouch, and bought some pomegranate-flavored tea. Finally saw Henry The "V" which was quite amusing but made me think primarily of Harry of Five Points. Baebes were a bit hard to hear and to see (v.crowded). Post-Faire, Mo and
airncbuh and Lana came over and had quite tasty chili.
Sunday was slow and lazy.
Monday the Gin Blossoms rocked my world. Acceptable sushi beforehand with
baranoouji and
uilos, then concert featuring Shawn Mullins (Me: "Who?"
elf: "He had a hit in the nineties, 'Rockabye.'" Everyone: "Oh! Him!" Me: "Now that I know that my desire to hear him has, um, not changed at all.") doing some songs, his one hit, and then a version of "House of the Rising Sun" from the perspective of a Fallen Woman. Very very nifty. And the main act was of course quite excellent; they played "Follow You Down" and "Til I Hear It From You" and about half their first album (including "Lost Horizons!") and a bunch of new stuff which sounds a lot like the old stuff, so I'll have to get the album. (
uilos: "Are the guitarists just not allowed to smile?" Me: "Can't talk, too weirded out by Robin's resemblance to
satyrblade.") Robin sang into various people's cell phones, which was pretty cool. Overall, good stuff.
Whee, and now it's another weekend already. Where /does/ the time go.

Date: 2006-10-07 06:46 am (UTC)I love the Gin Blossoms. I mean, I only have one of their CDs (guess which one? XD;) but I love it and every time I listen to it I tell myself that I'm going to look into their other albums and such. I really should do that.
"Lost Horizons" is probably my favorite song of theirs, too. That's awesome that they played it! Now I have to go listen to that CD again, excuse me...

Date: 2006-10-08 07:05 pm (UTC)I didn't much care for "Lost Horizons" when I first got the CD, in high school. But it's grown on me. Now it's one of my favorites on the album.
Turn summer trees to bones and ice
Turning sad songs against the night
With words we build and words we break . . .
