Weekend: Although the Richard McKay in Centreville has closed, the one in Manassas remains open. It's a bit more of a drive but still well worth the trip. Acquired several more books and Greg Brown's Dream Cafe CD. Also had Lapsang Souchong tea for the first and last time (it's the Laphroaig of teas; [livejournal.com profile] uilos observed that it smelled like bacon).

Monday: Dollar-a-piece nigiri at Maneki Neko in Falls Church is quite decent for a dollar a piece. It's also within walking distance of the State Theatre, at which the Gin Blossoms will be playing on the second of October. Conveniently, that's a Monday night. Anyone interested in joining me for an evening of sushi and music?

Also, yesterday my first attempt at a birthday present for [livejournal.com profile] uilos finally arrived, and today Amazon responded to my customer support request about my second attempt at a birthday present with "Looks like it got lost in the mail. Suck. We've sent out a replacement package, no charge." So, yay for packages getting here, and stuff.

We've only been fighting ten years--
do you really have to go?
Couldn't you reconsider,
and do it real, real slow?
I like living with you--
I don't care what you say.
I don't care who you meet,
at The Dream Cafe.

did you go to the victorian tea room for your tea? i would link to it but their website would probably discourage you from ever visiting. i seem to recall there also being a good coffee house in old town, but i can't remember the name. either google has failed me or it's no longer there.

i love the smell of lapsang souchang, but i haven't found any tea other than lemon zinger green tea that i actually enjoy drinking. "delicate" teas all taste too watery to me, and i don't usually like black tea except as chai (ie highly spiced with sweetened condensed milk, not just "tea in a different language"). when i was a kid i would brew lemon tea with two teabags and then add lemon juice.

"Oh, my friends are getting older, so I guess I must be, too.
Without their loving kindness, I don't know what I'd do.
Oh, the wine bottle is half empty; the money is all spent.
We're a cross between our parents and hippies in a tent."

Afternoon tea at the Fairmont Empress Hotel in Victoria, British Columbia, accessible by ferry from Seattle, costs around $50/person. Reservations should probably be made if you intended to go there, if you happened to be in Seattle in October.

I'm just saying.

Yeah. That sounds about right.
