I feel the need to point out that the Hokie is (and never has been) a castrated turkey: that's an urban legend. It was made up as a nonsense word for the school chant (as part of a contest aroun 1900), and was applied to the teams as the chant became popular. The teams were called the fighting Gobblers prior to the adoption of Hokie as a name (from the fact that they ate a lot what with being college atheletes), and gobble -> turkey was an obvious choice of mascot. At no point was any castration involved. :)
