So, moving happened.

Finished packing the night before, and at two AM I started taking down the ceiling fan to replace the original light fixture. I got as far as removing the first wire-twist-cap when it occurred to me that I should really probably kill the power to the room before fiddling with the electrical stuff. So I went to bed.

The move itself was spec-frickin'-tacular. Many thanks to (in alphabetical order) Chris who has no LJ, [livejournal.com profile] gigaclon, [livejournal.com profile] jedibfa, [livejournal.com profile] kittenchan, [livejournal.com profile] lizthefair, [livejournal.com profile] markush, [livejournal.com profile] narquelion, [livejournal.com profile] ndkid, [livejournal.com profile] rbandrews, and [livejournal.com profile] vond, plus a big shout-out to my neighbor Lance who let us borrow his van. All told we got around seventy boxes plus a decent chunk of furniture moved across about a hundred yards (plus down a staircase and up a staircase) in under three hours. You non-gender-specific guys totally rock, and I am in your debt.

Amusing moments: the discovery that the queen-size boxspring had only managed to go up the stairs in the first place because a certain door at the end of the hallway had opened, and in the year since then there'd been a seriously overloaded computer desk placed on the other side of the door. So, the first half-hour or so of moving consisted of taking roommate Greg's bedroom-area apart so we could open the door, and then (I presume) putting it back together after the boxspring got down the stairs. Taking a couple bites of the Best Apple Ever (because, well, it was one o'clock and apples contain both cold liquid and sugar). My shock at managing to fit all my stuff into the room; I must have asked "Is that it?" five or six times.

My amazement at simple things continues unabated into its second day. Running water near the teapot. A bathtub devoid of spiders. Easy access to my games (speaking of which, kudos to [livejournal.com profile] rbandrews for managing to fit them all on the six-foot shelf). Conditioned air.

This evening I go grocery shopping, put up the light in my former bedroom, and finish putting my desk together.

Life is better.
