Poker with Dick Cheney: "DC: We will show you our cards after we have collected the pot. It is important that things be done in this order, otherwise the foundation of our entire poker game will be destroyed."
For
laughin, the single greatest event of this guy's life. After all, if he can't handle one guy without losing his temper, how can he handle unfriendly nations?
Scare tactics in tort reform.
Fafnir on torture: "Before we get to 'Torture: Sorta Like Mowin Your Lawn' I think we should try as hard as we can to wake up."
Game Day was pretty cool. Finally got to play Saga, the last of my Origins acquisitions. It's neat, and easily worth the $7. Also played a lot of Sleuth [going to need more record sheets pretty soon] and Samurai, and Alhambra [sort of a tile-laying game crossed with a stock-market game, in which you get to do the Exact Change Dance], and Fire & Ice [two-player abstract strategy game: neat, but, well, there's go, beside which all other two-player abstract perfect-information games pale]. Also acquired a ceiling fan so that I'll no longer be bloody roasting in here.

Date: 2004-07-11 02:15 pm (UTC)All sources for the Kerry story I've been able to find boil down to Sampley's word against Kerry's. [All seem to originate with this NewsMax story.] And the Kerry campaign has denied it, for what that's worth.
Do I believe this one? Coming from President Who Cares What You Think, sure. Do I believe the Kerry story? Given the situation and provocation, sure. Do I think that candidates ought to remain superhumanly cool under unreasonable provocation? Not really. They're human, like everyone else.
[I do think that Vice President Go Fuck Yourself was way out of line. But that's hardly news.]

Date: 2004-07-11 05:10 pm (UTC)There are plenty of policy reasons to dislike Bush, like his highly-profile July 4th weakening of the Endangered Species Act (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A26242-2004Jul3.html), declaring the independence of endangered species from burdensome government protection.
