Gene Wolfe

jazzfishI am currently 41 pages into Gene Wolfe's novel There Are Doors. In that span, I've had two moments where I had to stop reading and say "Oh!" in a surprised/delighted voice, because I understood some small thing that he was doing. Now I know I'll have to reread The Book of the New Sun, and pay attention this time. Wolfe, I suspect, really is just that cool.
