You can see pretty clearly where each book ends, and think "oh, that really would have been better if they'd bothered to flesh it out at all." I enjoyed it; mostly I'm disappointed that it wasn't a lot better, or at least spread out over several movies.

As a fan of the books you can imagine how disappointed when I saw how this movie turned out. I think that the director made the wrong call when adapting the books based on Viggo Mortensen's schedule. He didn't want to take any part in any trilogy or anything like that, so in the end this crappy compressed version turned up.

Still, the books are great. It's funny that you're reviewing this movie, I didn't think it was easy at all to find in the states :).
